Re: Hawkgrrl Special on BCC

Thanks for sharing, Mom (and Hawk). I've shared it with a couple people I think might benefit from it.

Re: Nelson in Africa

Maybe if they are lucky; it depends on the bishop (leadership roulette). There are plenty of horror stories online of Church members that were denied any assistance when they really needed it after they had been paying tithing for years leading up to that point. In any case, my impression is that t...

Re: Navigating from the Dark Night

Thank you for your post. I get that tithing is between me and God I just think that if we go from being full 10% (net) tithing payers to only paying like $1,000 for the year the Bishop would be rather skeptical and my high-guilt conscience would get the best of me and I'd word vomit my feelings eve...

Re: Urgent Request for Input

I like it a lot too, and I do think it would work for other churches - I know of Catholics and Jews who have had faith crises/transitions. Right off the top of my head, I'd say "Come Join With US" (Uchtdorf) for number 4. For me it made all the difference. I have some pondering time this weekend, so...

Re: Navigating from the Dark Night

Welcome aboard, I'm glad you found us. The church does see most things from a black and white perspective for a lot of different reasons. This can provide a measure of security and comfort in a black and white world. This can provide a measure of angst, stress, depression, and guilt in a black and w...

Re: Getting ordained online

Just because Robert Kirby has done it doesn't mean it gives us a pass, but Kirby did do and performed a gay marriage (according to a column he once wrote). My own point of view is that I don't think doing this would be an affront to the priesthood, all it really does is give you the legal right to p...

Re: If Church's stance on LGBT persons is an Issue for you, how do you Deal with it?

The last two comments are very hard to hear and still want to go back to the LDS church. I am resigned. I don't know anyone who is gay but I have empathy for gay people. The only way I could justify going back to the LDS church, by that I mean just attending and being part of the culture, is to say...

Re: Nelson in Africa

I apologize for the post and run, I had just read it and it bugged me enough I had to post but didn't have time to expound. I still don't have tons of time but you all have hit most of it. Prosperity gospel, Mormon magic, begging for money, all of it. And I also disagree with the whole dowry thing -...

Nelson in Africa

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900016023/dowry-is-not-the-lords-way-in-kenya-lds-president-nelson-says-tithing-breaks-poverty-cycle.html I have trouble with this on multiple levels. It may have just struck me wrong or at a bad time, and honestly it is more in line with what I had expected from...

Re: Ministering - The New Buzz Word

I get what you all are saying and won't deny that there has been an uptick in the use of the term, even when some don't really get what it means yet. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." (I would have put have put in the meme but my work computer is restricted...
