Re: Talk on Repentance

Give me a few days, I have some great talks/quotes. Repentance is about change, and all too often in the church(and other churches) we tend to focus on penance instead of repentance. The weirdest part of that is penance isn't really part of our theology (although it does seem to be ingrained in poli...

We've had an excellent SP for ten years. He'll probably be gone next SC. He's very good but the poor man is tired.
I know 10 years is standard for an SP but I think it's too long.

Re: New hymnal is in the works! Some major, wonderful changes.

I submitted one suggestion, which I doubt will be taken, but whatever... I absolutely love "Beautiful Savior" and the harmony in it just takes my breath away. I'd actually like it if they changed the key for a lot of them so I could actually sing them. I like that song, too, and didn't think of it ...

Re: The Prosperity Gospel

I like this idea of the "security gospel" put forth by Roy as opposed to the prosperity gospel. I relate more to it. It's kind of like self reliance. Some people hear self reliance and think prepping - gardening, cooking on a fire, etc. Others hear self reliant and think working and paying your own ...

Re: Spiritual Anchors

If I repent and am forgiven, and then commit the same sin again, my previous repentance will be revoked. I remember hearing this a lot. I have decided that this is not the way repentance works. Repentance is a lifelong process of trying, failing, trying, failing and trying again. Some sins we move ...

Re: Never sure when to give kudos and when not to!

I would agree Heber and SD. And I think it's primarily due to correlation - the church's desire to have uniformity. The days of innovations that brought about such things as Primary and Sunday School are gone. I think the little box analogy is fitting.

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

I have known families and individuals that would be very well served learning some of these skills. OTOH, I am not sure that these skills are really leadership skills in the stirctest sense. And I'm not sure everyone wants or needs those skills. Sometimes I think we try to make people into somethin...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

Question I'd like to put out there: Do you think the LDS Church is effective in cultivating good, strong leadership skills? In general, no. I think there are some general leadership skills that apply to all areas of life, some that apply to professions, and others that apply to church leadership. I...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

I think it is fair to say that there is a lack of training for our leadership and this is a function of our lay clergy. It seems to me that our leaders' leadership styles are a reflection of 1) church culture and policies, 2) their personalities, and 3) their profession (and professional training) ...

Re: Why do you stay?

1) I guess I consider my relationship mostly "healthy." I suppose it depends on the definition of healthy. It's alive and not in intensive care at the moment though. There are certainly things I disagree with, I rarely go to Sunday School, etc. And sometimes even something kind of old that I thought...
