Re: Rome Temple

I didn’t mind Moroni so much until he usurped the original angel on the Nauvoo Temple. Why's Moroni become the symbol of our church? We don't like to put up crosses, because of idolatory, but non-members see his statue all over the place. I agree with your point about Moroni, but I had never heard ...

Re: Mental Exercise

For me personally it is the memberships reactions to my doubts that is the bigger issue. I have reached a point where I am more or less at peace with the Mormonism in my head and the bridges that I have built between historical Mormonism and where I have landed on the faith spectrum. What is still ...

Re: Worldwide Devotional

I think there are a few issues - we aren't the intended audience, the person giving the talk may feel hamstrung as to what they can say to a general audience, and the person giving the talk may lack perspective. The intended audience is something to keep in mind and I did learn from a mistake a few...

Re: Worldwide Devotional

I also heard it was awful so I'm not going to partake. My son was one of the people that said it was awful and didn't like it. He thought the rank and file TBM might like it, but he used the term bulldozer and he thought that's exactly what it was - a bulldozer against those who doubt. Carrying that...

Re: End of YSA SS

An update on this. I attend every ward council so get to see what happens behind the scenes. Original plan was to hold an unofficial 3rd hour YSA meeting. But at last ward council, it was suggested that YSA in second hour can continue. I approved and made my personal support for this clear. There w...

Re: Two hour church experiences

I did skip PH this past Sunday so I don't know how well the plan to reduce PH announcement time went. Was a part of the changes eliminating PH opening exercises? If so, a PH instructor may find that they now have three times as much time to plan for. I remember back when I was a PH instructor that ...

Re: Two hour church experiences

This Sunday (1/13) there were some growing pains. SM had a youth and two adults scheduled, youth was short (well under 5 minutes), first adult took a long time (babbling basically), third adult had no time. There had also been a rest hymn scheduled, it was not done. Priesthood ended 10 minutes early...

Re: What should be ADDED to the WoW?

A few months ago the For the Strength of the Youth booklet came up in a family discussion with my now adult children. They each talked about how much they disliked that book and how they believe it's not helpful for youth simply because all it is is a bunch more rules. Who wants more rules when it'...

Re: What should be ADDED to the WoW?

FWIW, I think the Church could seriously do with a redefining of what "commandments" are. They are not an arbitrary command from God, that he will reward us for keeping or punish us for disobeying. They are not meant to divide us into camps of "worthy" and "unworthy". Virtue should be its own rewar...
