Re: Do You Believe in the Literal Christ?

When I was a teenager, I used to tell my two best friends that all of this wasn't really happening. I said, "I exist, but right now I'm just dreaming, and you two are just figments of my imagination." I wasn't saying it to be mean, but it really set them both off! I've had that thought before...

Free agency, one of those phrases that inadequately describes what and all it encompasses.
Free agency is definitely one of those "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." things.

Re: Redesigning the Marriage Ceremony

Meh. I'm not big into pomp and circumstance or ritual anyway, and to me this seemed more like a "these are good ideas, let's tie them into the ritual" thing. I would actually like it more if these ideals were expressed by the temple sealer in his (hopefully) little blurb before the ritual itself. Or...

b) Authority from the organization to operate in specific means - Women have been given authority and assignments within the temple to officiate in ordinances and no one has blinked 2x about it. There is a disconnect between God and the church as to what callings females can be called to administra...

Yeah, I'm still not there Dande. I agree that humans differ from animals, but the pitbull example is still valid. The meanest pitbulls were raised/taught to be that way and/or put in situations where they had to do what they had to do to survive - quite literally. I have also known some pitbulls who...

I just wanted to say thanks for all your comments. I have not commented further but as usual I have enjoyed the thoughtful comments made here. And, it's good to know I'm not way off base. One of the doctrines I like from other Christian faiths is the concept of original sin. We are all inheriters of...

Re: "The CES Letter"

YASS!!!! Wait, does that mean we'll take turns reading conference talks during SS? ;) Let me rephrase. Much more like PH/RS is supposed to be. My only lament about the new SS curriculum is that it will begin next year, in replacement of NT. For me, NT is the one and only year of SS that I a...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?

Anyway, what does "ministering" mean to you? My idea of ministering is very broad, does not depend on monthly or even regular visits, and it depends largely on the minister and the person being ministered to (and those two aren't mutually exclusive). Ministering to the "widow" who is old, lonely an...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?

SD, I think often the need is just to have someone you can relax with for a few minutes. That's all part of the relationship/trust thing to some extent. I look forward to inviting my ministering elder (actually they're a couple, our ward has done this for awhile) over to dinner and just chatting - n...
