Re: Been holding cards very close to vest.

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad you found us. Thirty years is a long time to have learned how to cope and it sounds lie you have learned quite a bit. As Roy said, being OK at church is a good place to be, as is being OK with the church. You probably have a good amount of wisdom to share here. Plea...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

Question to throw out there? How should members of the Church treat the inactive, less-active, or those like many of us who aren't "all-in" in a traditional sense? Because, come to think of it, I'm not sure how I want to be treated. I just feel very sensitive when it comes to the Church. I hate bei...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I try to get to know a lot of the peripheral people in our ward. The main folk have each other and mix with each other, but I'm the guy who talks to the corridor walkers, the folk who only take sacrament, the terminally shy, the eccentrics and the occasional visitors... I do this partly because I'v...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I heard a saying once that says, "If you want attention from your ward, go inactive." In my experience exactly the opposite of this was true. I wouldn't worry about it, honestly. In the Christmas Party invitation thing it could be that was a YM project, maybe they were assigned as publicity or some...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

It doesn't matter what each of them did. Though their sins be as scarlet they will be made white as now. There but by the grace of God go we.

The thread title really sums it up. Men want to make it much more complicated than it really is.

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

I agree with this, but I think it's important to point out in relation to this that for may of us here our beliefs have changed on the subject. Pre-faith crisis/transition I full believed the whole thing about the BoM, it's origins and what it was. I did not doubt the Lamanites were Native American...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

It's true, people can receive what appears to be the same input and walk away with very different conclusions. I think one struggle is that sometimes we fall into the trap of assuming that other people aren't working with the right set of data, and that if they would just accept the right data then...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

1)It seems to me the Smiths were very social people. With the "religious excitement" of the day it also appears they regularly interacted with those various religious practitioners. It is therefore likely that Joseph was at least a passive participant in much of what was going on and in those intera...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

I just saw that Bill released the audio of his disciplinary council. He was asked to sign a document not to record it and he did sign it. So he not only recorded it anyway, which I could maybe justify for just your own purposes and private records, but to also release it just seems very dishonest t...

Re: Announcements - Less of?

My ward announced today that effective Jan. 1 there would NO (his emphasis) announcements in SM. All announcements will be in the bulletin. I'm not generally opposed to the idea, I don't go to church to get announcements. That said, our bulletin is going to take a significant amount of enhancement i...
