President for a day

My adult son and I have been playing this little game, and I think it's fun. If you were president of the church for a day (and whatever changes you make become permanent) what would you change? Because I've played a bit I have a list and I'll hold it for a bit (some of you can probably guess most o...

Re: New Sunday Worship

We really need announcements. Firstly most of our ward is transient, so needs constant reminders and secondly, it's the main way information gets about - particularly on events. I am actually in the camp of no or very few (read almost no) announcements. The point was made by Elder Cook that announc...

Re: My visions and visitations

I wasn't thinking about the limited use recommend Sam. That's a good point. You don't necessarily have to go with a group, at least not at our temple. The baptistry has times they're open for people to come in and appointments are also possible. Sometimes there might be a group there and you just ge...

Re: Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?

So other than withholding a TR, how else is the church to enforce a policy of mandatory attendance? Don't call me as EQP? FWIW, refering to the original questions "Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?" and "is church attendance necessary for our salvation?", I was using the hol...

Re: Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?

But it's still required, by the rules of the Church, for the membership to "attend when you can", is it not? Even if the exceptions are left very open to interpretation. Only if you want a temple recommend, and even then there's leadership roulette and extenuating circumstances. We have several mem...

Re: New Sunday Worship

My preference would be to have the Sacrament at the end, as the culminating event. Agreed. Every Christian church service that I've ever attended places the eucharist/sacrament at the end. Having it first has always given me the impression of just getting it over with so we can get on to more impor...

Re: I May Throw Up...

Today was F&TM in our ward and there were several about doing as Pres. Nelson "inviting" (apparently read commanded by some people) members to read the BoM before the end of the year. After the first couple I was thinking to myself "I don't remember him saying that." I was texting during the meetin...

Re: I May Throw Up...

I don't get the point of the social media fast. It is essentially to "get our priorities straight" (my words). if we're not spending so much time on social media, we could spend it on doing other things like reading the BoM. And that brings me to a related point. Today was F&TM in our ward and ther...
