Re: Did Jesus Learn From the Atonement?

My orthodox self says yes, Jesus did learn from the atonement. That part of me believes that Jesus does understand all human conditions and challenges and part of that understanding came during the atonement (which I believe began just prior to Gethsemane and culminated int he resurrection). To me "...

Re: 9/17 Nelson Devotional

Disheartening is a good word for it, but like Hazy said I didn't have high expectations to begin with and therefore got what I expected. I do appreciate that he used LGBT and the words gay and lesbian and did not use "same sex attraction." I think that's a step forward on the part of a major church ...

Re: Is It Arrogant to Pray?

Like Mom, my prayer changed drastically post faith crisis/transition. I also don't ask for things, but I do acknowledge things that I feel fortunate for (like not hitting a deer for over 2 years on my long daily commute). I do not believe in the God of the Lost Car Keys (the first episode of TBS's M...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

I like your 15 minute speaker and the rest for music MM. I've long thought sacrament meeting should be more like Music and the Spoken Word. A big part of the problem really is beyond the bishopric's control. They can tell someone "You have 10 minutes to talk about X" all they want, but what the pers...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

It is real torture to see the final speaker's eyes looking at his (or her) notes then looking at the clock & desperately trying to figure out what to cut. That's much more of a planning issue on the part of the speaker, the person who asked him or her to speak, and sometimes the inconsiderate natur...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

Except for announcements my ward has been pretty similar. I heard the music leader complain about the intermediate hymn/special music recently. She's not opposed to them and says she likes them but she pointed out that every time there is one (which is most weeks) we go over. I'm not so sure that's ...

Re: My Intro

It's been hard because we are programmed in the church that one won't receive all the "blessings" or your kids will go astray if the parents don't do their part in the Church. I am now looking through different lenses but it's still difficult. One of the hardest parts of what we go through is letti...

Re: My Intro

I was also the faith crisis one in the family, my wife did take the kids during the time I was inactive (10 years). In her mind there was no question about church for them, although I was not always supportive (no ordinations, etc.). I'm sure it was a tough row to hoe for her, and I do respect her f...

Re: True Pure Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ Relief Society Lesson

Sounds like it was a great lesson. Want to come teach PH in my ward? :D (feel free to bring your daughter) Anytime - as long as you cover transportation expenses :D (kidding.. mostly). But I am happy to PM you (or anyone) the official lesson that you can tailor to the needs of your group:) I'm not ...

Re: Birthday Celebration

Count me in as one it bothers. I purposely avoided the whole thing because I think it's just plain wrong, especially the money spent. The part that really bothers me most is the prophet worship, though. I can't recall the last birthday party for the pope. I honestly hope I'm as healthy and with it i...
