Re: People Who Were Spared...

Here is my take on it, from a non-literal view. Looking back on ancient Israel, they were God's chosen people, and yet they got picked on, pushed around, beaten up, captured, enslaved, subjugated... and the only thing that got them through, was their belief that God would vindicate them. By the riv...

Re: A Part of my Story

Welcome to the forum! Roy and Amy did such a great job doing what I was inclined to do while reading through your post. Like them, I can relate to much of your story. You've come a long way Baby! I'm still in the midst of rebuilding my faith as well, and I think I will be for years to come. I kind o...

Re: People Who Were Spared...

I have trouble with it too, but from a more theological point of view. Bottom line is that I have trouble reconciling the Old Testament "God of Wrath" with the New Testament "God of Love." I recognize each is existent in the other (love in the OT, wrath - at least promised - in the NT). And to top i...

Re: Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

I don't want this to sound differently than I intend it, but if you're a really good llama the sheep won't know you're not a sheep. And the best part is you don't even have to pretend, just be a llama. Like Muggles, sheep don't notice much.

Re: Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

Many of us have been there and done that. You're not an imposter. There is room for us in the church, but sometimes we have to use our elbows. Mormonese isn't so bad. Here's a one liner from a recent talk I gave: I'm told we all voted for the Father's plan and that's why we're here, but it seems som...

What does it mean to live life "outside the gospel"?
My best guess is good old conflation of the church and the gospel.

Re: One blogger's experience

I don't love it either, Roy. It's sort of like a talk by certain apostles - even though there is much I don't like, there are sometimes gems in there. Ballard comes to mind as one that this often happens with me. I'm not at all a fan of his anti-tech stuff, or "stay in the boat," or some of the othe...

Re: Coping with the Culture

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and, if so, what you've done to cope with the culture that is often preached as doctrine. Judging by our activity and convert retention rates I'd say a few million have probably experienced something like this! ;) First, welcome to the forum and sec...

Re: Can we "buy" blessings?

On my commute I sometimes listen to Catholic radio. This morning's mass had the James 1 as the scripture. They didn't do the whole chapter, just the first part - but it clearly applies to me starting in verse 6: But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a w...
