Re: A Geographic Model for Disaffection

hawkgrrrl, this is just awesome. There are only minor points where my situation would be much different than yours. One might be in the Extended Family category. I have been noticing an increasing urge to find some way to just spill the beans to all of them. Let them know where I stand. Part of this...

Thanks for pointing this out. This is what I meant when I referred to sharing things on Facebook (posting things for only those I've networked with).

Re: Going Public?

I have been in a position to be part of the hiring process for quite a few years now, and I regularly Google candidates. I would not use religion against them, but I've seen some things that absolutely influenced final decisions. Understood, and I think it's an extremely valid point that we should ...

Re: Going Public?

I am in the process of applying for a job with the church right now. I wouldn't want them reading about my faith crisis at all. I hear the church can be good to work for, so I hope you find what you need. I know we're all in different places, but I don't think I could work for the church right now ...

Re: Going Public?

I have a "corporate" reputation that matters too. I don't really want my clients and colleagues to stumble across it. That is a VERY important thing to consider. It's not all about church members and family. For many people, their job matters a lot in things like this. I'm not trying to be combativ...

Going Public?

Hi everyone, As I had said in my last post, I've been off the radar for a little while. I hope everyone is doing well. I know a lot of you blog because I've seen many of your blogs. I recently decided to join the blogging ranks for various reasons. What I would like to know from all you bloggers is,...

Extremely discouraged with religion

I have wanted so badly for the church to be something that I believe to have been divinely established and divinely led, but I just don't. I am reading Rough Stone Rolling to finally try to get to know Joseph Smith. The more I get to know of his life story, however, the more I start to feel like he ...

Re: Race and The Priesthood

Alex, it is referred to as "policy" and not "doctrine" because David O. McKay said it was policy and not doctrine in 1954 - after the 1947 statement - after (can't believe I'm drawing a blank on the name of the brother) a historian compiled evidence that it didn't start with Joseph Smith or a revel...

Re: Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah

And then there's this: Church leaders viewed plural marriage as a command to the Church generally, while recognizing that individuals who did not enter the practice could still stand approved of God. Women were free to choose their spouses, whether to enter into a polygamous or monogamous union, or ...
