Re: Rome Temple

I love the temple and design. I have a bit of an inferiority complex though - and I usually get annoyed when I see the little guy get treated normally but the special guy treated, well special. Rome is special. Snowflake, AZ (home of a somewhat recent small temple) is not. Part of me is thrilled we ...

Re: Massive Changes to the Temple Endowment

This list makes me happy. Huge step in the right direction, kudos to the Q15 and other GAs. I think changes for those putting them into effect can be among the most difficult - to some extent they have to consider that what they previously created and administered needed improvement. I’ve been visit...

Re: End of YSA SS

I can see why this would be difficult for some Young Single Adults. That being said, wards and individuals have explicit permission to meet as groups after church on Sundays as needed or desired. I guarantee that the YSA wards at BYU schools will have additional after church activities and I don’t s...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

My first reaction was similar to DJ's: that it doesn't really matter much. But I'll add my $0.02 to hopefully continue an interesting thought experiment. I'll look at it from a different angle. What if the two twins are born in a prison cell in a completely controlled environment. Everything about t...

Re: President Nelson Quote - What think you.

I believe that many local and general leaders of the church in the 60s, 70s, and 80s would have viewed this as incorrect and maybe even apostasy. An implication of this statement is that parts of what we have and do are wrong and need improvement.

Re: Ever get bored?

Yes, sometimes. I have a teenager at home who we have a good relationship with but he's so busy we almost never see him. Two daughters in college who are super busy also. Church generally keeps me busy but there are times when the extra time is boring. One thing that I've been focusing on recently i...

Re: What are the benefits of being a member of the church?

2) Strong families! Nothing is perfect but the church emphasis on families combined with chastity and WoW tends to produce stronger families. 3) community! The church becomes the nexus for those families to band together and serve one another. For me Roy's 2 and 3 summarize it well. My marriage and...

Experience with middle way topics

I wanted to share an experience that some of you may find interesting. This post might fit in another thread having to do with the hot topic of middle way Mormonism, but I wanted to share this separately. Recently I organized, conducted, and facilitated a ward level fireside focused on clips from El...

Re: I can’t believe in anything anymore

That’s not to say that I don’t see value in the community aspects of faith or religion. But as far as the beliefs go, I feel I was sort of deluding myself before and am now awake, so to speak. Have others felt this way? Are some still in this space? I think I'm in a similar place to what you descri...

Where There’s Hope - by Elizabeth Smart

General Conference is taking most of our attention this weekend, but I wanted to share about a book that I finished reading between sessions. Elizabeth Smart published a second book earlier this year called Where There’s Hope - Healing, Moving Forward, and Never Giving Up. I highly recommend it as o...
