Hungering and Thirsting

It's the strangest thing, but since I've been "supplementing" my spiritual diet with non-LDS resources, I find that I can't get enough. I'm like Parley P Pratt when he found the Book of Mormon. Instead of listening to music or sports or political radio on my drive into work, I find myself downloadin...

Conviction

Lately, the topic of "Conviction", especially as used in a traditional Christian context, has been on my mind. This is likely to be poorly formulated, incomplete and somewhat incomprehensible, but humor me. I need to get it out and I'd love to hear other's thoughts on the matter. The word Conviction...

Re: should I stay or should I go

Actually we're missing part of the quote... the line that Rugen says just before the above-quoted: "Get some rest. After all, if you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything."
I think I need some rest.

Amen to that. I wish we as a church culture really did abide by that AofF. :) Peace, brother.

Props to my DW

I had a great chat with my wife last night as we sort-of watched the Olympics on TV. She knows of my struggles and has encouraged me to take the time and distance I need, if it will help, and has been very supportive. Until last night, she only knew of the Race essay and how that was causing me my c...

Re: Feeling like Samuel the Lamanite, Captain Mormon, and Mo

Found Elder Callister's article (p.44): http://media.ldscdn.org/pdf/magazines/ensign-march-2014/2014-03-00-ensign-eng.pdf I tried to read the article with an open mind: So it is with God our Father—He needs to speak only once on the issue of morality, and that one declaration trumps all the opinion...

mackay11, My thinking is that if we lived as we ought, we wouldn't need a program to look after one another. I usually tell a story to illustrate the point. My sister-in-law had three little girls when her fourth was born with down's syndrome. There was no forewarning of the abnormality and she fou...

Re: The High Councilor Speaker Today: Serve with Common Sens

What I like about Curtis' approach is that he acknowledges there are some parts of their talks he doesn't agree with, and he can dismiss it and still focus on and find the parts of their talks that are really uplifting to him. Its important to acknowledge that, I believe. Its what I strive to do as...

Re: My God Problem

I find that trying to put Him into my box of reasoning is very arrogant of me, somehow implying that I know how He should be treating me better than He does. ...we will look back and it will make sense. We will see why we had to travel portions of the past alone without His help or His tangible pre...

Re: My God Problem

Don't know if this will be helpful or not, but it's my $0.02... I believe in a God that is aware and loving, etc., and I believe that I don't understand His ways or reasons. I find that trying to put Him into my box of reasoning is very arrogant of me, somehow implying that I know how He should be t...
