Re: Looking for like-hearted friends

Only Love, I just want to say two things: - I'm sorry that you are going through this. Yes, we can find new ways to grow, love, and become fulfilled, but there's no denying that it's a sucker punch to the gut to experience a faith crisis. I feel for you, as do others here. I'm at peace now and feel ...

You could also show scriptural and historical evidence that surplus is what Joseph Smith intended.
As was just discussed on the RMN in Africa thread, that is... well, let's say... debatable.

Re: Nelson in Africa

So why not let a convert and their posterity wander through a period of fumbling around for a more perfect definition of [insert priciple]? Yeah, wouldn't that be nice! I think it's downright bizarre that a new believer can't even join the Church without committing to live the WoW (and I think even...

Re: Nelson in Africa

mom3, This is a very interesting topic. The way it has been handled and continues to be handled is a great example of how to confuse. As pointed out in the (incomplete) wiki article, to "be tithed" was not a definite amount. There was a continuous tug-of-war in the first 50 years of the Church betwe...

Re: Nelson in Africa

For me, if we paid tithing on surplice, like D & C states and as Church History states, then fine Just a quick historical note. We never did pay tithing "on" surplus. We paid tithing "of" surplus. The differences is massive. Original tithing called for giving all your surplus at the beginning and t...

Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Lifting Ban

From lds.org: Forty years ago, President Spencer W. Kimball announced that the blessings of the priesthood would be extended to all of God's children everywhere in the world. The worldwide celebration will be broadcast from the Conference Center on Temple Square, Friday, June 1, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. D...

Re: Nelson in Africa

Dowry - I do think this is something that the Church should try to change among Church members. It's a common practice in parts of our world for higher-wealth men to force lower-wealth families to provide a usually-much-younger daughter for marriage. RMN isn't trying to change the practice in Africa...

Re: Hypothesis: Purely Intellectual Faith Crises aren't crises

For me, I don't think there is any value in trying to categorize the feelings of other people. We live in a time when people are (or at least notionally are) allowed to feel however they want without being called on the carpet to explain. I don't want hardcore Atheists or all-in LDS Members or Evang...

Re: To those of you who Lurk but don't post

A little off topic, but come to thin of it I haven't actually heard that fastest growing church line in some time. Of course it was only true from one point of view anyway, and even then it was questionable. In our current age of the decline of religion, I'd say the Church's motto could be: "We are...

Re: Pious Fraud?

dande48, great post and topic. For me, I think it comes down to what we decide is truth and what is a fraud. It' s very common for people on their way out of the Church to complain about the lies. I guess that my view has always been that the "perpetrators" aren't lying as much as they are interpret...
