Re: What exactly is a spiritual experience?

Here is another topic that came up a few years ago (2008). The reason it appeals to me today is because we had a Stake Conference this weekend. There were many good talks. It seemed like a number of the speakers were touched by what they were talking about. A lot of Kleenex came out & tears were...

Re: LDS purchase of Kirtland Temple

I looked up the original cost to build the Kirtland Temple. According to the source I saw, it cost the church $40,000.
That was in 1830 dollars.

Re: LDS purchase of Kirtland Temple

The LDS church pays $192,500,000 for a tourist attraction. Funds that came from Tithing & investments from Tithing. I'm trying really hard to wrap my head around this. Has the church done a Return on Investment for this purchase? Maybe they consider it a good Missionary program? No, that doesn't...

Re: LDS purchase of Kirtland Temple

It will be interesting to see how the church will use the Kirtland Temple:
- Will it continue to be a tourist attraction?

- Or will it be a real temple like SLC, Chicago or Provo?

Another question:
- What will the rededication look like? Anything like the first? (that's 2 questions)

Re: LDS purchase of Kirtland Temple

What does this transaction say about the Community of Christ church?
I personally don't know very much about them.
Is their membership going down?
Do they need the cash?

Anyone can probably infer that the answer is yes to both questions.

Re: Callings you've had or might have or will never have in your life.

The Church is an odd organization in so many ways. This is certainly one of them. If any of you have sat for a job interview or you were the one conducting the interview, you know what it's like to talk to someone, review their background, review their resume, talk to other people who have worked wi...

Re: Callings you've had or might have or will never have in your life.

After reading the posts to this discussion I had the following thought. Some of us have accepted callings, performed our dues, as best we could, with our dignity & our conscience intact & moved on. Shouldn't there be a rule where members are called to a position once & never called to th...

Re: Callings you've had or might have or will never have in your life.

I can start it off. The Best Calling I've had. Family History. I like working alone. There are no meetings. I like the belief that we are all connected somewhere in history. I like working with computers & programs. I like teaching one on one. The Worse Calling I've had. Executive Secretary. I w...
