Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

What about: LDSSA?
Is it now: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Student Association?

Aren't there more pressing issues to address?

Re: My Lonely Search for God

Last summer I entered the field of social work and became a therapist in the prison setting. I loved the population, and at the same time, they pushed me to a place I had never been before. I had never felt so broken. As I listened to what had happened to these people, what these people had done to...

Re: My Lonely Search for God

bdavis3, welcome & thank you for your post. Many of us have gone through what you have seen, heard & experienced. As a result we ask ourselves why. This is a good place to discuss issues & share ideas & experiences. My only conclusion is, it is better to talk with a friend than to sit in the dark an...

The Ministry of Peter the Chief Apostle

(I looked to see if anyone has posted a review for this book & couldn't find one.) This book is the product of a Sidney B Sperry Symposium at BYU. It deals with the life, ministry & times of the Apostle Peter. Each chapter has a different author & topic. You can jump around depending on the topic or...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

They are married. There seems to be no lasting repercussions...other than what they have been taught in church that it is unresolved, which makes them feel bad about themselves for messing up. They know other couples that confessed and went through the disciplinary process...which seemed kinda hars...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

It comes down to their faith. But I find the punitive system a bit harsh on these things that don't seem to have an impact, it is all guilt manufactured by the church and that is all. It is unnecessary. But...maybe that is part of being in a group. There are rules. My guess is they'll avoid the chu...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

My efforts to try to get them to believe in themselves and their relationship and the Atonement are not really fully received. They kind of feel like it will always be there until they confess to a bishop and don't want that. They're stuck. Self forgiveness can be a very big hurdle to overcome. I l...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

In 12 step recovery programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous & Narcotics Anonymous, we talk about making amends . The steps include the following: Step Eight: Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. Step Nine: Made direct amends to such people wherever ...

Re: Homework on Sunday - Help Please

The way I see it, if God wanted me not to do homework on Sunday, He wouldn't have made it necessary for me to go back to school in the first place. He could have let my husband have a better paying job and/or stopped my husband from being laid off six times. After all, we hear talks over the pulpit...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

OK, teaching courses in leadership and management, and leading projects regularly now. I have a question about leadership in the celestial Kingdom -- the temple ceremony, and church culture clearly subscribes to a command method of leadership. It is rather autocratic, where people at the top make d...
