What does a Temple Recommend mean to you?

I'm curious: - what does having a Temple Recommend mean to members of this forum? I joined the church as an adult. I thought at the time that it was an outward sign that you met the minimum standards for worthiness. It gave you the ability to go to the temple and participate in the "higher" ordinanc...

Re: Talk help/suggestions

Topic: "Becoming more like Jesus Christ and accessing his power by being more holy." I like the first part, dislike the idea that more holiness gets us more of his power/mercy/grace (I just plain don't believe that part). What I've got so far (focusing on the first part): A general review of some N...

Re: Having a Different Conversation/I Don't Know What To Say

Maybe this is needed in another Subject. I don't mean to hijack the discussion but, why don't we talk to our children openly regarding the temple? I don't think I would talk to them at 10 yrs old about my own feelings or beliefs but I would talk to them about what they expect to get out of the exper...

Re: Lawsuit Against the Church -- Implications

IMO there are some offenses that must be reported to the authorities. The church may have learned from what happened to the Catholic church. True repentance must be willing to face the legal requirements as well as the religious when seeking forgiveness. The lawyer for the perpetrator's family said:...

Re: A General Observation.

I can remember when we got married, my wife started to get the BYU Alumni magazine. They had some very interesting articles. The next month you could read in the letters to the editor, where a member would disagree or make contrary comments about what was presented. I like reading or hearing other v...

A General Observation.

The LDS church is interesting in that it has a missionary program that extends throughout the world. There are many races, cultures, nationalities, political beliefs and moral teachings. Once you are baptised there is pressure to conform. It is subtle & undefined until you are baptised. As an adult,...

Re: Jesus Wasn't Born in a Stable: An Excellent Article

Thanks Curt. I like the challenge of looking at the scriptures & teaching of the church in different or unconventional ways.
His approach is well thought out & interesting to consider.

Re: The Spirit of Christmas

I want to bring this back to the top. It has a great message.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Christmas started off with a bang. My son's black lab ate a plate of Christmas cookies overnight.

Re: An Unemotional Analysis of the Recent "Whistleblower" on LDS Church Finances

The title for Curt's post is: An Unemotional Analysis... yet all of us who responded, myself included, are reacting emotionally to some degree. I don't think we can help ourselves. My wife & I can't talk about our own finances without emotions rising to the top. Would we get as emotional about this ...

Re: An Unemotional Analysis of the Recent "Whistleblower" on LDS Church Finances

There are many ways to view financial issues. What concerns I may have are different to someone else. For example, there are some very rich people in the church who donate to BYU or other charities. For their donation, they will get their names attached to a building, receive publicity or attention ...
