Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

SD, thank you for taking my comments as a compliment. It was meant to be (a compliment). I believe that God teaches us lessons from time to time based on the choices we make. Your example is one of those lessons for you. There are others who accumulate just because they want to without consideration...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I want to comment on frugality and accumulating luxuries, a spinoff from another thread. While I think it would better to just be frugal and give to the poor, accumulating luxuries does serve a purpose. And hear me out before you reject this. For a while there, I used my earnings from a hobby to bu...

Re: Help (In a Good Way)

My first reaction is: Trials - How are they defined? - What are they? - How do we deal with them? - Can you talk about them? - What can the church do to help you individually to get through them? It would have to be a non-judgemental environment. (difficult to do at church) I believe this topic is w...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I worked in a factory nights while going to college days. It was a GM's plant & most of our town worked there directly or indirectly. The plant is closed now. The community went through a big adjustment but they did survive. While working on the assembly line, I could do my homework for the followin...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I've always thought it would be interesting to accumulate wealth in the first part of your life & spend the last half
giving it away to worthy causes or trying to solve problems in the world. Similar to the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.

Re: Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?

No, and neither does the Church, unless we broaden it to be "as many Sundays as is reasonably possible for each person". Curt can you explain your statement further? It sounds like it doesn't matter, once someone is baptised, if they show up again. I'm a slow learner. I really want to understand. '...

Re: I dont have a temple recommend.

In order to goto the temple my church said I need to attend church every Sunday for a year. It's too hard, pretty much impossible. I'm not a crowd person. Going where there are tons of people gathered, is like information overload to my senses. I get extreme anxiety and need to leave for air. Atten...

Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?

Ever since GC & the topic titled: Two Hour Church, I've been thinking about whether Church attendance should be considered mandatory or not for the general membership. Before my FC, I tried to attend all church meetings faithfully on a regular basis. While I was going through my FC my attendance mad...

Re: Two Hour Church

I believe it could based on what I've stated previously. This change seems to be designed to help middle class (& upper class) families. Anyone who is poor, elderly or minority may feel left out socially. This is one hour less social contact for them & the church. Some may argue that this is where "...

Re: Two Hour Church

Are we saying that a drop in activity & attendance at meetings was built into the decision to go to Two Hours? I am coming to the conclusion that I really don't like change. This seems to open the door for criticism that says, we're not doing something right again. Either "Ministering", Fellowshippi...
