Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I agree with DJ & Sam. We sit in the back the "peripherals" too. They are my kind "peeps".
I am naturally not a joiner. I don't have any special talents that draw attention. I do like to
talk with people.

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

...Sometimes they have to announce it -- not sure if the current handbook of instructions indicates it, but if the sin was widely known, there would be a public announcement so the membership knew it had been dealt with. Really. I didn't know that. I can't remember the last time a public announceme...

Re: Church Relationships - Temporariness and How to Deal

If we aren't willing to make the effort & extend ourselves, then we can't expect others to make the effort either. I try to be friendly to everyone. It doesn't mean that we will be having a life long relationship. There are people in our ward & neighborhood, who have gone "the extra mile" for our fa...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

SL, your post reminded me of the "olden" days & the way excommunications were announced. It was usually at the end of the ward priesthood & the Aaronic PH was dismissed. The Bishop would stand at the podium & make a brief announcement that someone specifically was Excommunicated & the reason. As if ...

Re: Please Stop telling the sick and dying to just have faith, it isn't helping

One of my favorite topics is, pain management. IMO there is nothing noble about letting patients suffer. There is medication that does control pain but addictive over time. In a setting like this, there is no reason not to use it. There are very few Doctors or Nurse Practitioners who specialize in t...

Re: Joseph Smith wasn't actually a Polygamist...

IMO, we will never know fully the doctrine of plural marriage in the context of 1844 Nauvoo. We will never know what JS was thinking or how he viewed the future regarding this issue. In my mind it will always be a riddle wrapped in an enigma. As we discussed in other postings, revelations are not al...

Re: Cures for Spiritual Burnout?

One cure for spiritual burnout for me, doing something good for someone who "falls through the cracks". And do it anonymously. It could be: - a community charity. - a nursing home. - making friends with someone at church who blends in & doesn't draw attention. - an elderly neighbor. It can be a one ...

Re: My Trip to Salt Lake City -- impressions

My wife & I went to SLC this summer. We hadn't been there in about 20+ years. We visited my daughter & my grandson. He graduated HS in Park City. We went to SLC to visit friends. We had a great time. Our impressions were the same as yours. I was impressed with the amount of construction we saw. We a...

Re: Service vs. free labor

My favorite story about service, freely offered & given. My first job out of college, I moved to a new city & new ward. I was assigned as a Home Teacher with another Brother. We went to visit a single Sister & her non-member Mother. We gave the lesson & asked the usual question: Is there anything we...
