Re: Best Way to Convince Spouse of Tithing Surplus

In our marriage we came to an agreement but it took time. We did baby steps. I value tithing. I think it has great merit (I am talking scriptural). Take the time. Don't try to convince someone of your belief. It never works. Share your concerns then step back and wait. Like Mr. Snee said, you may be...

Re: Nelson in Africa

On Own - Thank you. Likely it is all the iterations after the basic 10% that we now do. Maybe that's why I am defensive for a group of people I barely know. Can't we just start by accepting what they can give? He did call them pioneers. Can't we let them mature naturally in this area? Part of my ove...

Amy - I like this. I wish we addressed all individual growth the same way. You've given me something to think about.

Re: Nelson in Africa

On Own - Maybe I have read it wrong. On a quick cheat I grabbed the wikipedia defintion for the LDS tithing. It seems different to me than how you see it. This isn't tit for tat - It's a learning question. Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery made a covenant on November 29, 1834, in which they promised t...

Re: Nelson in Africa

For me, if we paid tithing on surplice, like D & C states and as Church History states, then fine - add it to the equation, but we don't. And he is not asking them to either. Or if he had listed tithing as the 13th thing in a list of 20 things then I would be okay. Tithing is scriptural. I love the ...

Re: Nelson in Africa

Roy wrote - I suppose I feel that much improvement would be done if many adopted the Mormon cultural focus on family. The priesthood role and having men lead their families spiritually would also be an improvement. That part I don't mind. I don't mind the dowry change - I mind the implication that ...

Re: Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Lifting Ban

I am scared too. We never do handle our real history well. And I am all over the idea of history is messy.

I might die though if the word Essay even came up.

Re: Ministering - The New Buzz Word

Nibbler wrote - Lately I've been skipping the 3rd hour so I've missed a lot of the chatter about ministering. Ironically mine wasn't in 3rd hour. I expected it there. It was in Sacrament Meeting. Every prayer repeated it twice. The Dry Council and Stake Auxiliary Speaker's both applied it to everyt...

Re: Nelson in Africa

Nibbler wrote - Our buildings see relatively little use. We could leverage our existing buildings to do those ordinances. Dedicate a stake center or a portion of a stake center for one week per quarter to perform ordinances. We could have 1000 'temples' overnight. I have been on that bandwagon for ...
