Re: Mental Exercise

For me personally it is the memberships reactions to my doubts that is the bigger issue. I have reached a point where I am more or less at peace with the Mormonism in my head and the bridges that I have built between historical Mormonism and where I have landed on the faith spectrum. What is still r...

Re: Questions asked of Youth in Aaronic Priesthood Advancement Interviews

Yesterday, 11 year old DS, DW and I met with the bishop regarding his advancement. Roy Jr. is on the autism spectrum but is considered highly functioning. He gave mostly one word non-committal answers "no" and "yeah" There were several interviews scheduled in 15 minute increments. Bishop would ask R...

Re: What IS the Priesthood and why is it needed?

In this context it would be completely accurate to refer to a group of priests as the priesthood (whereas we LDS have lately been discouraged from referring to priesthood holdin...

Re: Worldwide Devotional

I swear that I have heard that story about the fisherman in the fishing boat before. A little googling reveals that this is at least the second time that Elder Renlund has given this parable and it was copied at least one time by a person giving a talk in SM. https://stayingintheboat.wordpress.com/2...

So happy to hear this! We talk about "Leadership Roulette" and that can be a real thing but also many of our leaders genuinely want to be helpful and to facilitate what they perceive as our spiritual growth.

Yes, I was thinking of talking about underlying principles behind the advice. (one point that I took note of was the advice to remove your headphones when people are trying to include you in a discussion or activity) I think we are mostly on the same page here.

Re: What should be ADDED to the WoW?

A few months ago the For the Strength of the Youth booklet came up in a family discussion with my now adult children. They each talked about how much they disliked that book and how they believe it's not helpful for youth simply because all it is is a bunch more rules. Who wants more rules when it'...

Re: Special Sunday School class

It's on the reading list. I started re-reading it last night so that I can use it as camouflage to incorporate some of my doctrinal and church history concerns. Wow, a reading list! I think I might love this class. Some of the things that were big takeaways for me concerning RSR: JS did not seem an...
