Re: People Who Were Spared...

That's one of the greatest appeals of all Abrahamic Religions; that God will one day smite and punish those who have wronged us (the wicked), and that all of our pains and sufferings will be made right and our righteousness rewarded. Historian Richard Bushman was asked about some of the questionabl...

Re: A Part of my Story

I almost forgot! Your chosen name of "Walls" reminded me of an analogy I found on a blog post a few years back. "How to Stay Mormon When You're Tired of Mormons." The entire post is worth perusing in my opinion. https://dinosaursarefun.blogspot.com/2015/05/how-to-stay-mormon-when-youre-tired-of.html...

Re: A Part of my Story

Welcome Walls, I identify with much in your story. In some ways, I feel like I was lied to growing up. We sit in church and everyone teaches how wonderful it is to be married, and how that goal will lead to a blissful forever full of love and understanding where you pray together and your problems d...

Re: People Who Were Spared...

I have a hard time with this concept. Entire cities destroyed in gruesome ways because of their unrighteousness. There is a hint that perhaps the cities cast the righteous out of their midst so that there were none remaining in the city (like the story of lot). There were several references to the w...

Re: Selfishness vs. Self-Care/Self-Preservation

Sometimes DW will bemoan some task that has been requested of her that she dreads. She will usually say something like the following, "I want to say no but is that Christ like?" I almost always tell her, "You are not Jesus." DW is very conscientious. When she takes on a responsibility she will "pick...

Re: When you feel the need to apologize for the church

I suppose there are different levels. If I am not close to the person then I do not feel the need to clarify (unsolicited) how my personal beliefs might differ from the party line. If I am close to the person then a discussion and apology might be appropriate and healing. I have sometimes said that ...

Re: Being safe at Church.

I'm not suggesting that we need armed guards. I'm suggesting that we probably need a plan, just in case. My wife has friends in the Lutheran church & they told her that they developed a plan where after the services start, all exits are locked & posted by men who open the doors for anyone who comes...

Re: Speaking up in class

Some thoughts. 1) Don't do it. I find it difficult to make comments that do not betray my true feelings. Recently I was in a discussion where I was defending the JW church as being just as weird as we are. Objectively, I think Mormons are pretty darn weird in the scale of global mainstream religions...
