Re: Speaking up in class

Some thoughts. 1) Don't do it. I find it difficult to make comments that do not betray my true feelings. Recently I was in a discussion where I was defending the JW church as being just as weird as we are. Objectively, I think Mormons are pretty darn weird in the scale of global mainstream religions...

Re: The value of unorthodox parents

Early on in my FC, DW had several conversations about not "confusing" the children. I do not think that telling the kids that we know the secret answers to life, the universe, and everything is a very good antidote to confusion. OTOH, I think it is important to have a stable and respectful message t...

Re: Questions About Faith

Last Sunday someone in the SS class I attended made the comment (paraphrased and translated, so heavily filtered), "heavenly father feeds all the birds but they still have to go out and look for it." A reference to Matthew 6:26. I think I know what they are trying to say here (avoid sloth) and yet ...

Re: How Questioning Strengthened My Faith Instead of My Doubt

I was looking at the blog post author and wondering who this individual was. Laurie Campbell has quite the collection of life experiences, challenges, and mistakes. She has lived a life outside the gospel and within, having now determined, with absolute certainty, she likes it better within. What do...

Re: Sustaining Others in Callings

Undergo/Suffer - maybe sometimes when we "sustain" someone in leadership, all we can do is not speak ill of them and have charity enough to "undergo/suffer" their leadership. Interesting I have never thought of this in the context of sustain an injury before. "Bro. Roy, do you sustain you bishop?" ...

Re: Coping with the Culture

Welcome ZMadel2, You remind me of some friends of mine. They are joined the church a few years ago. They have a special needs son and the dad does not work and stays home to help deal with the son's challenges. The wife does not want to stay home and takes much satisfaction in being able to work out...

Here's another goody that was on that same page. https://www.lds.org/blog/how-questionin ... s?lang=eng I also give kudos to LDS.org for reposting this one, especially since the word doubt can have such a negative connotation in the church. I like this one less. She had questions and doubts until o...
