Re: Help (In a Good Way)

My recommendation would be to follow in the foot-steps of Chieko Okazaki! “Only you know your circumstances, your energy level, the needs of your children, and the emotional demands of your other obligations. Be wise during intensive seasons of your life. Cherish your agency, and don’t give it away ...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I find that my family enjoys accumulating stuff. Because of my frugal heart I encourage this accumulation through less expensive means on the post consumer market (yard sales, classifieds, ebay, etc.) For the first half of our marriage we were moving about every 3 years and this provided incentive t...

Re: My visions and visitations

One important thing to remember is that, in our doctrine, all the ordinances of the temple will eventually be provided to everyone (post-mortem). Therefore, the focus of our lives should be on how we live our lives and not on whether or not we go to the temple.

Re: Do you consider Church attendance mandatory for everyone?

I agree with the stretchyness of the word mandatory. We in the church seem to understand that it is a commandment to take the sacrament often. This interpretation comes from the BoM and the D&C. It is not clear from the bible itself that Jesus was instituting an ordinance at all in the last supper. ...

Re: PR Misdirection

I like to apply just about everything through the lens of biological evolution. The species that survive, are the ones with the traits most fit for survival. That doesn't mean the traits are "good" or "moral" or that the creatures have an accurate view of reality. All traits that cause a species to...

Re: PR Misdirection

I tend to agree on the name change. All the other items Roy mentioned seem to have an underlying practical reason that serves the naked temporal interests of the church. But the name change...that is different. My current theory is that the church was having a problem of being the biggest organizat...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

The Jehovah's Witnesses take very seriously the idea that omitting the name of deity is both offensive to God and limits of the saving power of the gospel.

Re: Two Hour Church

Stated earlier. I've known some leaders, local and otherwise, that felt the need to stamp out social aspects of the church. You don't come to church to socialize, you come to church to save and be saved! But we missed that little detail where we save and are saved via our social interactions. But w...

Re: The Church to match box office sales ...

I have been ruminating on this over night. It might be a smart marketing strategy. 1) the church makes a charitable donation that produces good works. 2) the church encourages people to see a movie that helps support (at least tangentially) church goals. 3) Rather than just do a one time donation, t...
