Re: An Update About My Faith

Thank you for the update ILC. I was once told by a Pastor from a Baptist church, "You can be saved and be Mormon, but it won't be the Mormonism that saves you." It struck me in a profound way and I still ponder on it from time to time. We rejoice with you in your successes and support you in your un...

Re: Ex-Bishop Up for Disciplinary Council Regarding Minor Interview Outspeak

I believe that there is a trajectory for many individuals that stand up publicly to make a change in the church and it usually leads outside of the church. This to me seems quite natural really. Once you become a public figure for change you will likely receive more and more exposure to stories of "...

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses, return and report

DW and I met with a very nice JW couple for several months. Observations: 1) JW beliefs are generally internally consistent. Looking from the inside there is nothing that seems off. They have a system of belief based on the bible with particular emphasis on some verses over others (just like other C...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

Internally, emotions come from attachments. The greater the attachment, the greater the emotion. Stalin? No attachment, no emotion. Joseph Smith? Historically we've made him the linchpin of the church. People sacrificed a lot for his vision, there's an attachment. There's skin in the game. Yes, thi...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

Stalin yes - one of the biggest mass murderers in history. Possibly killed more than Hitler. I think that proves my point. I am not angry at Stalin. I barely think about him at all. When I do I most often think about him in the context as a ally in WW2. Even if I remember his atrocities, I do not t...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

JS lived a long time ago. I never met him. Sure, he did some things that I find objectionable. What about Julius Ceaser or Joseph Stalin? Should I be mad at them? I submit that there are other reasons causing the anger. Possibly being in an organization that treats his words as scripture and is unab...

Re: Black Klansman, KKK & the LDS

there has not been one Klan for decades - there are a number of rival organizations who all hate each other and each claims to be the true successor. Black Klansman is about the group the Knights of the KKK An offshoot group of the Knights of the KKK should be named the "Knew Knights of the KKK." ;)

Re: History of the Temple Recommend

I find it interesting that there is the refrain is repeated to the general membership that all these things (the ordinances, the presentation, the sequence, the garment, the TR questions) are handed down by revelation and cannot be changed … and then many of these things get changed. 1966, July 6: 1...

Re: YSA Fireside

I'm only going to listen to this one question at a time but the response to the first question makes me think this event will be filled with apologetics that ceased to work for me years and years ago. But again, I'm not their target audience. Their target audience may respond well to apologetics. I...
