Re: StayLDS Version of the Give Thanks Media Campaign

My cousin shared a give thanks post on facebook that contained the following excerpt from a talk that the had delivered on the topic "Why I believe": She gave me permission to share it. Some may call it being naïve. Some may call it being gullible. I call it a spiritual gift. I am a believer. I beli...

Re: Give Thanks as an American thing

This seems to reflect that prophets are products of their time and place. For better or worse RMN and most of the LDS leadership team came of age in a particular time and place and that influences how they see the world.

Re: I took a big step on Sunday and it went good

I am so glad this went well for you. I am always hesitant to lay my cards out on the table lest I get permanently labeled. For me right now, I do not really need a TR but I could foresee wanting one in the future and that future bishop could make things hard for me if he doubts my intentions. My cur...

Re: StayLDS Version of the Give Thanks Media Campaign

I cherish the examples of true gratitude for the small and simple things in life that are overlooked. I'm grateful for the mess that is my life because it means I'm still alive and have time to make things around me a bit better. I have been thinking that in some ways COVID is stripping away all of...

Re: Successful Collaboration

Incidentally, we used similar reasoning for why DD (now 14) was not participating in youth temple trips (DD just doesn't want to go). We stated that we wanted her first temple visit to be a special "mother daughter" trip. That was enough to delay the questioning for a while. Then the pandemic hit. O...

Re: How to respond to missionaries

In the past we had missionaries come over to "practice" giving the discussions. This we were willing to do and we gave some mild feedback (for example, I was really surprised that they no longer use flipcharts and expressed a need for visual aids). The missionaries stopped coming over when the pande...

Re: Tithing Settlement during the pandemic

But are tithing settlements really necessary for temple recommends? Not with the two year ones, IMHO. I was typing a response that basically said that a bishop can deny a recommend based on information outside of the TR interview. Thus if the bishop believes that you are being evasive about your ti...

Re: A quote from RBG

Always remember that Utah was one of the earliest places in the world to give women the vote, back when it could claim to be a mostly LDS state. That counts for something. Yes, there are those early glimmers of equality that we can hang on to. We have come a long way since and still have a long way...

Re: StayLDS Version of the Give Thanks Media Campaign

I generally like the social media campaign. I feel that my social media feed has become increasingly polarized and divisive. If everyone can together focus on giving thanks then there is much less room for other stuff. I am thankful for my employment that makes it possible for me to provide for my f...
