Re: Support StayLDS!

As of yesterday we have not received any donations and the 2-6-2020 deadline continues to loom … ominously.

If anyone would like to donate but is intimidated by the PayPal method, please contact me and we can make alternate arrangements.

Re: Church Disavows Dark Sin as a Curse

Yes, The idea that people with darker shades of skin color are less attractive is problematic … and Nephi says that God saw them as less attractive … or at least less attractive for the Nephites. Why would God even do that? Wouldn't it be enough to just issue a commandment not to intermarry with tho...

Re: LDS church supports LGBQT conversion therapy?

The new rule went into effect yesterday. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/so-called-conversion-therapy-banned-in-conservative-utah/ar-BBZcD1k?ocid=spartandhp "This measure will truly save lives" Utah is only the 19th state to ban the practice. Even as I feel that the new rule could have been strong...

Re: Church Disavows Dark Sin as a Curse

The essay on race and the priesthood says the following: Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of a...

Re: Church Disavows Dark Sin as a Curse

I thought this was automatically disavowed when the PH was opened to all worthy male members of the church regardless of race. What am I missing? This feels very strange. What happened in 1978 is that the priesthood and temple ban was removed. 10 after that Elder Oaks began saying that the justific...

I love it SD! Your ice cream analogy reminds me of the parable of the laborers.

Re: What does a Temple Recommend mean to you?

I think the qualifiers we place around entrance to the temple serve as a barometer on where we fall on the justice vs. mercy scale. IMO we, as a culture, have the scales tipped towards the justice side of the spectrum. Yes, we don't believe someone has to be perfect to enter the temple, but entry r...

Re: Lawsuit Against the Church -- Implications

Yeah SD, I think that abuse hotline was established for exactly that kind of reason. We want all of our church leaders complying with the law - for their sake as well as the sake of the church. I would also self declare as a mandatory reporter though I do not know that doing so would get me out of a...

Re: An Unemotional Analysis of the Recent "Whistleblower" on LDS Church Finances

I don't really expect to change anytime soon is that they refused to continue to use some of this available money to pay janitors and are asking members to spend their limited free time scrubbing toilets and such mostly because they know some members will do this if asked to. Just because you can g...
