Re: Collateral Damage

How does the dynamic change when it is close family members/friends (if it changes)? I think you are asking what about when it is someone close to you that seems uncomfortable with your changing of the script. This can be hard because parts of your relationship with that person may have been built ...

Re: Tom Christofferson on the policy change and Easter

Wonderful article! thanks for sharing. Some of the comments are disheartening. I have to believe that the views expressed by some of the more strident old guard members are not representative of our current church leadership - otherwise the POX would never have been reversed. Forget everything that ...

Re: Your Answer May Come Right Away...

Thank you D1, I agree that blessings or tender mercies or "answers" are not formulaic or consistent. I believe that we give people a false sense of security and set them up for a hard fall when we teach otherwise. I appreciate that our leaders are trying to lower our expectations in this area by say...

Re: Collateral Damage

I feel that it can be especially frustrating when people in church act like their belief makes them better than everyone who is not at church or who has doubts or who believes differently. I need to reduce my level of taking it personally. To do so, I sometimes pretend to be an anthropologist studyi...

Re: New Teaching: Qualification

I see qualifying as becoming able - which fits both eternal progression and grace quite well "When the Lord calls, he also empowers." I like the sound of that. In relation to my pastor friend's example of the season pass to Dis...

Re: New Teaching: Qualification

I understand "being saved" in the context that most of my Christian friends use it as being inducted into team Jesus with all the trappings. For the rest of your life, any "mistake" you might make is already known and paid for as long as you do not sever yourself from the team.

Re: New Teaching: Qualification

My own belief is that works are demonstration of our faith, like baptism, but do not earn us anything. I think for those who don't understand the universality of grace, it is very difficult to talk the talk of faith only. I truly do not believe any of us qualify for any of the blessings of grace. A...
