Re: Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend

Thanks for the report on that. I am seeing a marriage counselor now and he follows Imago therapy. It has been helping, a lot. There are a few things that have been worth the expensive sessions.. 1. He asked us to express appreciation for something the other person did every day. That made a differen...

Re: Sexual "Articles of Faith" for LDS Marital Intimacy

I am not in favor of most absolute statements. As you get older, it's a often recipe for attack, often a recipe for exceptions to be shared, and normally a sign of a lack of breadth in a person's experience or judgment.

Re: Ministering Rules

What is the church's goal with rules like this? Is it reasonable or too paternalistic? I think it's reasonable. One false accusation or misinterpreted act by a brother alone with a sister and your reputation is shot. People will take sides and you will be in a hearsay situation. Better to have a wi...

Re: Estimating the Chances - Women in the Priesthood

If it happens, I think it will be gradual. Maybe allow women to be Ward clerks, Sunday School Presidents, executive secretaries, and other callings that require the priesthood, but not ordain them to an office. Then, after the distinction between male administrators and female administrators is dimi...

Re: Pros and Cons of Supplementing

Curious if anyone else supplements and if you've had a similar experience. Definitely. I have long since believed the scriptures and GA talks are inadequate for solving problems in families, personal problems, unemployment, etcetera. The scriptures are "strategic" in that they give you general guid...

Re: A Spiritual Ponzi Scheme

Then when it finally came time for me to cash in and ask for God's help, I broke open my spiritual piggy bank only to find it was completely empty. That's it exactly. It's how I felt the first, second, and third time I got hit with Empty Piggy Bank syndrome. The church requires massive sacrifices n...

Re: Vox LDS growth article

I read it. A key paragraph, for me, is here: One-quarter of Americans are religiously unaffiliated today, a roughly fourfold increase from a couple of decades earlier. Christian denominations around the country are contending with massive defections. White Christian groups have experienced the most ...

Re: Church today -- mixed bag, some good stuff

I have trouble with churchumonies (prounded church-you-mowney). A churchumony is when people get up and carry on about how great the church is. I am glad the experience works for them, but it reminds me that not all church experiences are created equal.

Re: TR interview and porn

I'm going to interpret your STake President's question the way Curtis might read the words...given his ability to see different meanings than everyone else in the same passage... The SP said "Do you live the law of chastity, which includes pornography?" A person could answer: "Yes, I live the law of...

Church today -- mixed bag, some good stuff

There used to be a return and report thread for items like this but I couldn't find it. There is a positive things at church thread -- but mine is a mix, so feel free to move this if you want... I am loving 2 hour church. I can handle an hour of sacrament meeting if I know there is only an hour of l...
