Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

This was the subject of EQ today. His talk on reconciliation. I had to keep my mouth shut, although I ended up making comments that could be taken two ways. Here they are: 1. After you've been deeply wronged, the relationship is normally different than in the past. You wouldn't voluntarily jump back...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

I just saw that Bill released the audio of his disciplinary council. He was asked to sign a document not to record it and he did sign it. So he not only recorded it anyway, which I could maybe justify for just your own purposes and private records, but to also release it just seems very dishonest t...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I like to not be treated like I'm inactive. And that means visits from missionaries who treat us that way. I do like it when people I served with as TBM come up to me and talk to me like we still have a good relationship. One lady came up to me and said "you were the best home teacher I ever had!". ...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I think there's a good chance they have you on a semi-active, high potential list. They do that -- start treating you like you are inactive, which can only make it worse if you're not fully there yet. I would just ignore it. It's partly the fact you haven't made yourself known, partly insensitivity ...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

If my time on earth is any indication, there was a time I thought I'd done something terribly wrong and went to the Bishop to confess and accept any penalties. It turned out that what i did was really, really minor. I THOUGHT it was grievous, but it wasn't so there was no penalty and I was told I di...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

I think this is an interesting question, but for me, it doesn't have an answer. Part of me wants to quote that we are equal in the sight of God except for sin. But who sinned? If you make a choice to sin, thinking you are sinning, and then find it isn't a sin, is it still a sin? It is a gray area wh...

Re: David Bokovoy on Mormon Stories

fascinating! I personally wonder if JS thought that the BoA is what Abraham would have said or if JS needed an ancient source for his theology to have credibility. One of the things that "Misquoting Jesus" explores is that new religions often lay claim to old beliefs, prophecies, and scriptures but...

Re: The Quest for Constant Joy

I believe that some people are naturally more positive. My daughter is like this. She is remarkably resilient and not brought down by other's opinions. OTOH she also does not seem to understand the concept of remorse and contrition - she literally just does not seem to feel bad. I do believe that t...

Re: Church Relationships - Temporariness and How to Deal

I guess long-term, meaningful relationships are like panning for gold. You have to put a lot of sand and material into the pan so the gold nuggets come through after filtration. You don't know whether a long-term relationship will blossom from a short-term relationship until the person moves, I gues...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

The last I remember was about 30 years ago. They just said the person's name and that they were excommunicated, but wouldn't say why. It was the strangest thing. It's like sharing a tidbit and then telling everyone you can't say anything else. Not sure if this is a current requirement in the handboo...
