Money makes you comfortable not happy. That's the distinction many people can't make.
And I think that principle is easy to internalize when you have money to to make you comfortable -- and then learn you're no happier than when you were poor.

Re: The Church to match box office sales ...

I don't have a problem with this at all. It's a highly visible way of helping others, while also furthering the interests of the church at the same time. My only concern is whether the story portrayed in the movie is faithful to what actually happened, as we all have heard the term "whitewashing".

The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I want to comment on frugality and accumulating luxuries, a spinoff from another thread. While I think it would better to just be frugal and give to the poor, accumulating luxuries does serve a purpose. And hear me out before you reject this. For a while there, I used my earnings from a hobby to buy...

Re: PR Misdirection

Again and again I feel like the church does not trust its membership to explain the non-spiritual reasons . Perhaps the church is just hyper vigilant of critics and wishes to obscure the non-spiritual reasons for changes in order to act as a buffer (after all, people can find fault with your logica...

Re: Those that leave the church.

I also reject the idea that "Satan got them". In my own journey, the textbook church path was a path to misery for me in so many ways. At one point, the misery factor outstripped the happiness factor, and so, I made adjustments. Now I am happier than I ever was when it comes to my life in general. A...

Re: Supposed Blizzard of Changes coming at General Conference

My wife thought it was funny there were people trying to come up with a short form name for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. The name someone suggested was the TABCATS. I thought that was great! Almost like tabby cats. And the acronym fits! It sounds like a jazz group but nonetheless it's a cl...

Re: Secular Knowledge

After listening to, yet another, secular knowledge diatribe by Dallin Oakes I have to speak my mind. The level of frustration I have over this topic is beyond explanation. Church leaders have repeatedly demonstrated that their knowledge isn’t necessarily “the truth,” and “Secular” knowledge has spr...

Did I miss anything this weekend?

Changes were:
1) 2 hour block
2) WML and temple duties fall under RS and EQ Pres

Anything else?
12 new temples all over the place in the world. Not much else. I wouldn't call this a blizzard of changes by any means.
