Re: Help me understand marriage doctrine...

To me this whole question is a can of worms. I don't fault you for asking it. But ask 5 different members and you'll get five different answers. Some will say that if due to no fault of your own you don't get married in this life, you get a second chance. Others will say you're accountable in the ne...

One to Two Hour Church Meetings?

My wife was sick this morning, and we overslept, so I ended up going to church late. We had only one hour there. I want to say how incredibly manageable it was. My son and I attended priesthood meeting only, but it was just about right, if not a bit short. But OK. I had the opportunity to participat...

Re: Sharing observations about a recent temple square visit

The film didn't emphasize the incorrectness of other faiths. I'm torn about this. While it sounds inclusive, or at least, less arrogant or exclusionary than the "don't join any of the churches because they are ALL wrong", it's not what we believe. It's what I believe. Reading all the accounts revea...

Re: Strolling Toward Church

I am hearing more stories here about good leaders. Still some questionable ones, like the story Doubting Thomas told, but this is another example of someone who is trying to build up people rather than punish them in the 1950's way... The part I didn't get was this: I have knowingly broken temple co...

Re: The culture of marriage

We should care about their future, and that doesn't mean just getting them pregnant at the first sign of fertility. We do a very poor job encouraging women in this church to be able to be financially independent which leads to some of them being abused, not able to divorce, or reduced to poverty. T...

Re: The culture of marriage

My question: Is it bad to marry young? What is the downside if they find someone they are in love with and are willing to figure things out as they go along? By waiting longer...isn't someone just adding new variables to a situation, not really getting a more sure answer on who is going to be right...

Re: The culture of marriage

To Heber's points above... I have trained my daughter to understand her emotional needs from www.marriagebuilders.com. We went through what she felt was important to her and she emerged with a very clear idea of what she needs from a spouse -- given this stage of her self-awareness. As a result, she...

The culture of marriage

I have regular conversations with my daughter who is in Utah and BYU-P right now. I am amazed at how strong the "get married" culture is. She talks a lot about getting married, which is fine with me, but they even have phrases like someone "wifing" another person, etcetera. Going on dates is very po...

Re: Transitioning into adulthood

I'm in between jobs and when I have nothing to do I tend to slip back into depression which I've dealt with for many years. I try to tell myself that I'm going to do positive things with my time off and then end up spending the day on Netflix rather than filling out job applications of getting read...
