Re: Youth Bishop Interviews

In short, I don't have a good solution. IMO, which the church cares less than zero about, bishops should be prohibited from asking anything more than "Do you obey the Law of Chastity?" Full stop, yes or no. If yes, move on to the next question. The grilling down on specifics should be outright proh...

Re: Gospel Principles class?

I wouldn't recommend it. First of all, you are an established member -- right? As a WML or missionary, I wouldn't 'want established members bringing up all this stuff that could hurt my believing investigators. The rule that church is for building faith applies in Gospel Doctrine too. Also, a princi...

Re: Here we go again.

I am glad you have Sheepese protocols. I have found them very useful to the point local leaders have wanted me back in leadership again, in spite of my contrarian ideals. They don't know the half of them. Flying under the radar is the best thing on earth to do. It keeps your options open. It seems t...

Re: Here we go again.

I honestly feel that the status quo is generally mediocre standards and fire fighting. When you are an inactive member that is coming back to church then you are the fire that needs to be put out. There may be extra attention given to accommodate you until the sense of urgency subsides then it goes...

Re: Reverse TBM Moment

Interesting perspective. She needed to hear what you said...so much misery in this life is created by trying to get people to do what we want - when they don't want to. It's an important part of life, but when you have no real influence over people, it creates hardship. In my view, she needs to just...

Re: Here we go again.

Feeling a little better now...took some steps to stop Ward leaders behavior from impacting my enthusiasm and progress. 1. Decided just to promote the teacher's council to the teachers directly through my mailing list and hand to hand flyers. That's it. 2. Concurrent with #1, decided not to rely on W...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

Neither the path of change or the path of no change is without risk. Maybe since Kirtland, we’ve never had a period of – I’ll call it apostasy, like we’re having now; largely over these issues… He calls it apostasy, I'll call it people leaving because they no longer buy the only thing the church se...

Re: Putting down my pitchfork... er... taking a hiatus.

I think I need to take a month or so off from visiting this forum so that I can focus on the positive aspects of the church. I shouldn't let the 10% I don't like (this isn't a tithing joke, I promise) ruin the 50% I do like and the 40% I don't mind. My shelf is still very much broken and I don't ex...

Re: Counter balancing the negative....

My wife is in the RS Presidency in our ward, and they just rearranged the chairs for lessons and are moving explicitly into a "circle of councils" model for their classes. The focus is on smaller group discussions and then full group input. That method at least gives everyone an opportunity to talk...

Re: “I Don’t Know”... The Perfect Response?

You can't share any of the reasons. There leader may respond with indifference, all the way to some kind of discipline. We've seen the full range here. It's unpredictable. Best to play it safe. So, my answer is "A temple recommend isn't something I feel passionate about right now". If they press...y...
