Re: Do you participate in Symposia ......
I am 52 years old. That has never been part of the interview questions in my endowed lifetime. Wow! I was asked that question! Maybe it was a baptismal interview question then on my mission....but there was a question about consorting with groups that are opposed to the church, and attending Sympos...

Re: Hypothetical situation
Also, there have been quite a few people who have said pretty much the opposite, so I could handle an exception from a hardliner. Can you give an example Curtis? I was thinking I wouldn't change my habits here if it was a general talk -- we already have talks that are hard to accept, and each perso...

Do you participate in Symposia ......
At one time there was a TR interview question that asked if we participate in "groups or Symposia" that are not in harmony with gospel teachings or something like that. Anyone know the origin of that question? Was it inspired by Sunstone for example? I never really knew why there was a reference to ...

Hypothetical situation
Let's say there was a talk General Conference about how you are either all in, or all out, that middle way Mormonism is not the way to go, and even implies that sites like these are not good for you spiritually... I'm curious, what impact would that have on your participation here? Would it change y...

Re: Looking for like-hearted friends
Hello! I am so excited to officially join this community. I’ve been reading (okay, devouring) posts on here for a few months and I have been blown away by the love and wisdom in this community. I’m at a point in my journey where I feel a great desire to connect with like-minded (and “like-hearted”)...

Re: Redesigning the Marriage Ceremony
I watched it, but it didnt' really affect me. I think a successful marriage can often be encouraged by following the principles at marriagebuilders.com built on emotional needs. The ceremony really isn't all that significant to me anymore -- it's whether the people who have come together meet each o...

Re: Poll: Mormon identity and its effect on emotional health
I want to add that one experience actually affected my mental health to the point of meds required. And a depression diagnoses. I still thought of myself as a Mormon, but I no longer felt any pride in it. To this day, I'm not sure if I'm proud or ashamed of our church. But I know it can really hurt ...

Re: Poll: Mormon identity and its effect on emotional health
I think of myself as a Mormon, but it's a mixed bag. It brings me happiness when I am successful in navigating the path of being in and out at the same time. It brings me sadness when I think of the negative effects it has had on my life. It brings me happiness when I think about the fact that most ...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?
I HONESTLY BELIEVE IF WE PUT ALL THE EFFORT WE PUT INTO HOME TEACHING/MINISTERING INTO MAKING OUR SUNDAY AND WEEKLY PROGRAMS ENGAGING AND INTERESTING AND SPIRITUALLY UPLIFTING, WE WOULD ACHIEVE MANY OF THE SAME RESULTS OR GREATER. I don't think it's so much as the amount of effort, as the wrong typ...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?
I just got back from ministering. Felt just like home teaching. I had to figure out apartments in a myriad of buildings in a complex, that was gated. While I enjoyed the walk, it was a night of driving to places only to find no one was home. At times I felt like we might as well call it home teachin...
