Re: Anger, Rage, and Revenge seeking

I think anger can be good, as can resentment and rage -- but only for a while, and not expressed in violent ways. Anger and a bit of resentment can be good because it can lead to focused problem solving and strong resolve. And these things tend to mitigate anger and turn into a kind of pride in what...

Re: Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

I'm with OON on this one. I also didn't like the talk and for the same reason. Yep -- the focus was on the guy who was offended. And I understand it. It's between the person and the Lord....so if the guy said he was a full tithe payer, however calculated, shouldn't the BP have granted the recommend...

Re: Anger, Rage, and Revenge seeking

It can be important for me to remember that the LDS church is not my enemy, The people in fast and testimony meeting that seem to take such comfort in saying things that do not quite ring true to me are not my enemy, even my in-laws that think that playing with face cards or drinking caffeinated so...

Re: My Trip to Salt Lake City -- impressions

My main comment is that I wish I'd had a chance to meet you when you were here. I would have loved to have that opportunity. It's not often I get to talk to an unorthodox Mormon in real life. :D So here's a shout-out to any of the rest of you who might find yourself in Salt Lake City. Let me know t...

Re: Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

I simply will say individual experiences and perspectives can be very different. In that light, I will say that I have heard Elder Holland preach reconciliation by leaders on more than one occasion. If I made a list of the current top leadership and the likelihood of each individual giving such a t...

Re: What IS the Priesthood and why is it needed?

When I realized that everything is subject "to the will of God" in exercising the power of God, I realized I don't really have any power at all -- unless somehow I'm able to guess at what God wants, and say it -- all while having a baseline of righteousness I probably am not perceived to have right ...

Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

This was the subject of EQ today. His talk on reconciliation. I had to keep my mouth shut, although I ended up making comments that could be taken two ways. Here they are: 1. After you've been deeply wronged, the relationship is normally different than in the past. You wouldn't voluntarily jump back...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

I just saw that Bill released the audio of his disciplinary council. He was asked to sign a document not to record it and he did sign it. So he not only recorded it anyway, which I could maybe justify for just your own purposes and private records, but to also release it just seems very dishonest t...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I like to not be treated like I'm inactive. And that means visits from missionaries who treat us that way. I do like it when people I served with as TBM come up to me and talk to me like we still have a good relationship. One lady came up to me and said "you were the best home teacher I ever had!". ...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

I think there's a good chance they have you on a semi-active, high potential list. They do that -- start treating you like you are inactive, which can only make it worse if you're not fully there yet. I would just ignore it. It's partly the fact you haven't made yourself known, partly insensitivity ...
