Teachers Council Once a Quarter? Once a Quarter!

My wife told me there was an announcement that the teacher's council happens once a quarter now. Makes sense, starting Jan 1, when we are on two-hour church. I have to confess, it's been dragging, this "calling" as Teachers Council Facilitator (TCF). I taught the teachers everything I know. Teaching...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

SD, you always post interesting topics. Many will leave me scratching my head for a number of days. This is one of them. This is my "come away" or conclusion from your post. Please tell me if I'm wrong. "After accumulating luxury items (or stuff), the process has run it's course, I'm done & I've le...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I find that my family enjoys accumulating stuff. Because of my frugal heart I encourage this accumulation through less expensive means on the post consumer market (yard sales, classifieds, ebay, etc.) For the first half of our marriage we were moving about every 3 years and this provided incentive ...

Re: PR Misdirection

Full disclosure: My theory is based upon my speculation. It makes sense to my mind. However, I do acknowledge that if an individual searches for practical motivations behind any "revelation" 1) they will likely be found and 2) the existence of practical benefits does not prove anything one way or t...

Re: The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

If I understand you right: The value of accumulating luxuries, is in realizing that luxuries have no inherent value. That's an interesting insight. I'd like to extend it a little further: The value of making mistakes, is realizing they are mistakes . ... and therefore we shouldn't look down on ours...

Re: PR Misdirection

I tend to agree on the name change. All the other items Roy mentioned seem to have an underlying practical reason that serves the naked temporal interests of the church. But the name change...that is different. In modern times, we have the internet with URL's that need to be easily accessible. www.t...

Money makes you comfortable not happy. That's the distinction many people can't make.
And I think that principle is easy to internalize when you have money to to make you comfortable -- and then learn you're no happier than when you were poor.

Re: The Church to match box office sales ...

I don't have a problem with this at all. It's a highly visible way of helping others, while also furthering the interests of the church at the same time. My only concern is whether the story portrayed in the movie is faithful to what actually happened, as we all have heard the term "whitewashing".

The Value of Accumulating Luxuries

I want to comment on frugality and accumulating luxuries, a spinoff from another thread. While I think it would better to just be frugal and give to the poor, accumulating luxuries does serve a purpose. And hear me out before you reject this. For a while there, I used my earnings from a hobby to buy...
