Re: Doubting my Patriarchal Blessing

According to Mormon theology/practice, I am the patriarch of our home. Can I give a patriarchal blessing?

An alternate model for funding the church

I hate to be a naysayer all the time. Yes, I don't really like the forced tithing concept we have in our church. But in the end -- it works. It was only after decades of experimenting and failing at funding the church consistently that they hit on this current model. And this model has produced sati...

Re: Tell me why I don't like Sundays

Sounds like you are stuck then. Try memorizing credit card numbers, phone numbers, and even scriptures that are cool. There have to be a couple you like. Put them on a note card and learn them backwards and forwards. Even great quotes from spiritual people. Quick glqance every now and then until yo...

Re: The Church doesn't feel like a good investment

I personally find myself wanting the church to be false more often than I want it to be true due to all the distress it has caused me (mostly culturally). The problem is I still deeply believe Joseph Smith saw God and I would feel internally dishonest if I were to let that go. I've hung my entire c...

Re: My Nephew Met a GA

What did he feel was special about the experience? At one time I was in awe with them given the urban belief they have seen Christ. But now I am not so sure. Plus, many of the policies emanate from them, and not all are good for families, so I am not nearly as enamored as I once was with the mystica...

Re: Tell me why I don't like Sundays

My answer is that your hubby isn't with you in RS is he? Do it there. Look forward to it. If my wife disapproved I would likely not read or do anything that bothered her, but she doesn't seem to care... My calling takes up the third hour, otherwise I would. However, my calling is the most tolerable...

Re: An Exercise in Perspectives on Church

Reminds me of a man who wanted to smoke and pray. He asked one wise man "Can I smoke while I pray?". The answer was "no". then he asked a different wise man "Can I pray while I smoke?". The answer was Yes.

Wording is everything.

Re: Doubting my Patriarchal Blessing

I don't read mine anymore. I have brought it to pass essentially. Did the mission, the wedding, the children. It does tell me to pay tithing and pray regularly, but that was because the patriarch asked me which commandments I have the most trouble with, and I told him those two things. So that doesn...

Re: The Church's History of Tithing

[ But there was one time a co-worker was getting married. I just remember kind of balling during the ceremony as it hit me just how much my co-worker was in love with her new husband. It was in a small church and I think we were the only members there. Another attitude conditioner -- people in othe...

Re: Tell me why I don't like Sundays

A well charged handheld device with lots of good books on it is good. [...] For someone reason, a book you are reading is ostentatious. But a handheld device, no -- could be the scriptures, a hymn book or something else. Thanks for your comment Silent Dawning! I love to read, so the idea of reading...
