Re: 11-Year-Old Deacons and Beehives

I think that this is a generally good change. It puts me and my 11 year old son in a slightly awkward situation simply because the change was so sudden and I thought we would have an entire year to prepare for priesthood ordination and now we have a few weeks. As a semi-active non-tithe payer getti...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

Nothing was coerced. Nothing. He had a choice: sign it, make a promise not to record it, and get excommunicated; not sign it, not make a promise not to record it, and get excommunicated. He KNEW what the outcome would be, given what he has said and done. His choice was to be honest in the situation...

I think this is good. Maybe it will reduce the number of massively teenager looking youth standing up there in the primary presentation looking like a fish out of water next to all the young primary kids.

Re: How can I help divorce?

I had an engagement break up when I was in my 20's. Man, that hurt. A friend of mine did exactly the above -- called me and invited me out. She just listened to whatever I wanted to talk about. After it was over, and there were no new happenings, she then trained me not to talk about it. It was kind...

Re: Maintaining and building relationships

Understand their level of orthodoxy and don't challenge it in any way, even through casual expression of your beliefs. Participate in their church conversations. You can still ask them questions about how they feel about the 2 hour block, the combined priesthood quorums, and other changes that are v...

Re: Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

I just had a thought... I wonder if current Church doctrine is teaching us, especially leaders, to be ashamed of our weakness. In line with current Church doctrine, most Bishop's and leaders are highly untrained, yet expected to have all the answers the moment they need them. More or less, they are...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

In some ways I see this as similar to the story of Peter and denying Jesus. (I do recognize that there are different interpretations of the story, let's go with the "common" interpretation that Peter didn't think he be in that position.) Any member could be Peter. He did not doubt that Jesus was wh...

Re: Anger, Rage, and Revenge seeking

I think anger can be good, as can resentment and rage -- but only for a while, and not expressed in violent ways. Anger and a bit of resentment can be good because it can lead to focused problem solving and strong resolve. And these things tend to mitigate anger and turn into a kind of pride in what...

Re: Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

I'm with OON on this one. I also didn't like the talk and for the same reason. Yep -- the focus was on the guy who was offended. And I understand it. It's between the person and the Lord....so if the guy said he was a full tithe payer, however calculated, shouldn't the BP have granted the recommend...
