It will never change
We will always be known as Mormons
Accept it and move on!
There are bigger fish to fry
 This. Nothing wrong with the name (other than sounding like "moron").

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

While restored might sound good to the head honchos, it also has the meaning of doing up something old and battered... restoration puts me in mind of someone working for years on fixing up an old automobile which barely works when they get it running. Not the image they intended. Really no idea why ...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

That being said I understand the desire to not be called Mormons, especially in contrast to polygamists. I had an argument with my very orthodox brother in law one time when I explained that the term "Mormons" is non-technical and a fairly general term for anyone who believes in the Book of Mormon,...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

Church of Jesus Christ is too generic. There are a dozen organizations with names like that.

Isn't the church website lds.org? Or mormon.org? I don't think either are offensive.

Sounds very like the old English aristocratic families - oldest son got the estate, next went into the military and next into the Anglican clergy traditionally.

Re: YW and free babysitting

I'm afraid to say there is a very basic reason for this. In the current climate, many people are uncomfortable leaving their children with males. There is a lot of prejudice against men even working in kindergartens. It saddens me greatly. I actually quite like children, but will go nowhere near mos...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

On Catholic television (there are a couple different ones) you can watch mass. And there are many Youtube videos of masses. You don't have to go to a Catholic church to see one. I've been to a few. Traditional, tridentine, happy clappy... I gather pre-Vatican II the priest stood with his back to th...

Spain discovered the Americas at a bad time. They were coming out of the Inquisition, and they exported that and it entrenched itself in their colonies after it had died out in Spain itself.

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

I know a Protestant who took the host not once but twice at the same event! He got funny looks from the priest when he said "thank you" as well.

Personally I'm not keen on how they present the mass. The way they place it on your tongue and you share a cup... nah.
