Re: President Oaks and the Priesthood Restriction

I just listened to clips from Oaks’ talk. I’m amazed. He flat out said the ban was God’s command. What the heck?!? Mormonism has this weird conundrum... officially we follow the current president's counsel over the previous ones, but we still can't admit some of previous ones might have been wrong.

Re: Alan Watts

- I disagree about drugs with him given how many are destroyed by them - He did drink and womanize quite a lot... it wasn't very Buddhist of him. But he did have quite a few incredible insights, and was very skilled at teaching. I guess a tree can bare good fruit and bad. This... but I suppose it d...

Re: Noah film, Creation scene

Maybe. Their telling of creation felt more theistic evolution and the church's traditional telling of the creation story feels more literal (no death before the fall, so evolution is out). I think the church's current interpretation of the creation story lands in the "we don't know" or "no comment"...

Re: My Intro & Hellos

As the saying goes, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Do what works for you, but keep the good stuff.

By the way if you're going to drink coffee... I wouldn't go for Starbucks, they may be the best known, but they don't do the best coffee. I steer away from it because it does things to me.

Re: Is belief a choice? Also, seriously? No really, seriously?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_same-sex_unions Wikipedia, so unreliable, but the Roman law of the 300s forbidding it is of interest:. When a man “marries” in the manner of a woman, a “woman” about to renounce men, what does he wish, when sex has lost its significance; when the crime is one...

Re: Orrin Hatch Pleads for Acceptance of LGBT People on the Senate Floor

I attended our local Pride parade. I came to the conclusion as I watched the parade that the healthiest thing is to accept and move on. I am excited that an anchor Mormon took such a public stand. He is bucking a lot. That is risky. Brick by brick we will build the bridge that should have existed i...

Re: Does Programmed Service Build Community?

Programmed service is good for those members who are not outgoing, or perhaps even not well liked.

I've done such service and it is good because I have gotten to know such people.
