Re: LDS Worship: What Would You Keep?
Shortening sacrament meeting is nice. I have been in a ward where we only had a 1 hour sacrament meeting because of an odd building schedule. We just started having a more regular schedule and I already hate having 3 speakers instead of 2. I do not see the need for 3 speakers each week, 2 is suffici...

Re: Mormon and Same Sex Attracted
It seems like your bishop thinks that as far as the belief part of the temple recommend goes, you pass with him. It also seems like he wants you to make some changes in conduct to be temple worthy because he believes it will help you to be happy. I would try to refrain from reading any more into it....

Re: What would it take to put you into TBM "status"?
Have you read much about Fowler's stages of faith? Basically, the theory states that there is no real way back. TBM is roughly a stage 3 mentality. Once you're past that, there really is no going back. But that doesn't mean you cannot form a new relationship with the church as your faith progresses.

Re: Service: Mechanized vs Intrinsic
I think that we have all felt taken advantage of by our ward leaders asking too much of us at one time or another. I now try to limit myself to two moves a year. I usually try to help when friends ask me personally rather than going through the EQ. I tend to get resentful otherwise. But I'm very gra...

Re: I toured the Kirtland temple yesterday
Yeah, they do tours at the Johnson farm. They tell about when the Smith's lived there. The one that sticks out most is the story of Joseph being carried out and tarred and feathered. But the men who took him left the door open and it was cold and a child died.

Certainty
At church today a member of my stake presidency encouraged us to improve our relationship with HF by bettering our communication with Him. He asked us what would we do if we could see HF and talk with Him and know for a certainty that He is there. My initial reaction was that I want that certainty. ...

Re: How Do You Reconcile these Scriptures?
I take those verses to mean that we are to act, rather than be acted upon. Life is about making choices. Personally, I think life is more interesting if we make the bolder choice. Being conscious of how little we know or how much we doubt does not mean that we are lukewarm. I think another interpret...

Re: Need Help with This Personal Weakness
I don't have brilliant advice for you. One thing that I find helps me is to put myself in the other person's shoes so I can have pity on them. When you think about the situation that distressed you, you think about it from your perspective. I would try to step out of it so you can see the situation ...

Re: When does the anger go away?
I love my mistrust and cynicism. I don't want to let them go. I wouldn't be me. I didn't go through the anger phase but that's not really me either. I have frustrations and I just try to manage them. It's still difficult. I hope that I'm progressing towards a more stage 5 mentality but I get a littl...

Re: Pres. Hinckley on Godhood Couplet: What He Actually Said
I see a lot of validity in what Ray said. I think that the part of the couplet that is emphasized by members of the church is the second part - "As God is, man may become." There are a lot of mormons that believe that HF was once a mortal man, but I don't think that it is a doctrine and I ...
