Re: Same-Sex Families Being Added to the LDS Church's Family Search Database

I think that great news! Unfortunately, one of the comments from the website said that recording same-sex marriages isn't the same as condoning them. Well, I still think that great news! In the long run, I don't think it's so much a matter of what the Church condones; God's judgment isn't...

And just think, that's 48 more hours per year you can work on family history, ministering and/or reading the Book of Mormon. ;)
Oh, yeah! That's just what I was thinking.

Re: Same-Sex Families Being Added to the LDS Church's Family Search Database

I just saw this news, too, and I am elated. Yeah, acknowledging that they exist does not mean condoning them, but it's still huge. It's saying, "These are families!" It's moving forward and that's definitely better than the alternative.

Re: Two Hour Church -- Rumor or Work in Process?

That would be really cool! That way I'd only have to skip one hour of church each week instead of two! :D

Re: What does the church have to offer you?

Sitting through boring lessons and meetings can wear on you. There are plenty of reasons to endure and keep going to church. But... I've been thinking...what is it that church really has to offer? What's the purpose of church? Actually, the Church doesn't offer me much these days, but it was throug...

Re: Happy to find a safe space

I struggle in church weekly to not let my nuanced feelings "slip" out as I know that in my ultra-conservative ward, I would be ostracized. And if that's happened to any of you--is it as painful as it seems like it would be? Or is it liberating? Or both? I'm sure it's very cathartic to many people o...

Re: Happy to find a safe space

Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you joined us. This is the most marvelous place imaginable for LDS folks who don't want to leave the Church but who don't feel as if they don't quite fit the LDS mold. I love how we can be so honest here. Nobody will ever condemn you. At the same time, you will never b...

Re: Where does the church fit for you

I'm just curious as to why so many people voted for The Church has only those truths common to all religions , because the only such "truth" I can think of is that Jesus Christ was our Savior. True, that's a pretty big truth, but that's about all most Christians can actually agree on, so which truth...

Re: Where does the church fit for you

Do I think the church was restored by inspired means? Yes. Do I think it is the only path to truth? No. Even our own theology allows for exaltation without ever entering an LDS building. Do I believe the church has some exclusive truths that make it fundamentally superior to other religions? Yes. A...

Re: Demotion from First Presidency?

While I was really sad to see Uchtdorf moved back to the Q12, I really didn't see it as a demotion. Obviously the President of the Church is going to want counselors he "clicks" with. I can't think of anyone who is more like Nelson than Oaks. They're like twins separated at birth. Nelson probably ju...
